about

The "Tracks" EP is a retrospective record and journey paying hommage to my favorite cities and their train station life and ambiance. Focusing on two cities and their areas, Kyoto (where I go every year) and Paris and its suburbs (where I live).

Opening with the self titled single "Tracks", created by transcribing the melody announcing the arrival of trains on the platform in the Kyoto subway, as well integrated field recordings of the Hozu River. The moment of scission in the tracks if a musical transition from the atmosphere on Kyoto to the streets of Vitry Sur Seine, my suburb. More punch, more roughness, more beats.

"You'll Only Love Once" has two meanings: its the sensation of falling completely and unconditionally with a new city, the feverness of the feeling, invading your body and mind with curiosity and adrenaline. It also has a more personal meaning, which is the joy of travelling with a loved one and the unexplainable feeling that sharing new experiences with somebody brings, and how the memories will be even more vivid and bright.

"JūJo Station" is a track that recounts my first trip to Kyoto, and me being completely lost in the subway stations, not understanding where to go, and especially not being able to pay a ticket because the machines only took cash and I only had a card. The detuned synth is a reminder of the sensation of being adrift, lost, but still happy to experience this feeling. The field recordings are from the Kyoto Station at empty hours.

"Fox Café Fushimi Inari" is written specially for the lovely tenants of the Fox Café located right before the entrance of the Fushimi Inari shrine. I went there for a pancake and discovered such a strange and inviting café! The coffee machines looked like an alchemist's lair, it was so cool. And the all ladies crew where dressed as butlers and where all super cute grandmas. Then, all hyped up on the strongest coffee ever, I went for a stroll in the shrine, where kitsune's are supposed to live and have built the place. I could imagine them walking around with their lanterns drinking sake and singing.

The record then closes with "Auterlitz", which is the station of commuting where I change from my suburban train to the Parisian metro, a place of junction, of contrast, synonymous of arrival, or departure. Its the place where I see everyday the immigrant working class leaving the city to board the train and go back to the suburbs. Being an outdoors train, as it leaves the station and progressively leaves Paris, you can see the contrast in architecture and housing, how the people boarding become more and more different as the train goes further and further out. This place is for me a dire reminder social status, but also makes you see things from a different perspective.

"Tracks" refers to train tracks. The sensation that one would feel while travelling by train, sitting in a window seat, looking at the different sceneries and escaping in their mind. Going through the changing feelings of joy, nostalgia, curiosity, or melancholia.
